Located
near the main entrance to the facility, the Covel Sports
Park was constructed by Waste Management for use by
the local community.
Completed in 1996, the park consists of two baseball
diamonds complete with regulation backstops and dugouts
and a combination football and soccer field with goal
posts. In addition to a paved parking lot, the park
has bleachers, a concession stand, and portable restrooms.
Covel Sports Park encompasses 25 acres in total and
was constructed at a cost of $250,000, all of which
was paid by Waste Management.
At present the baseball fields are home to St. Vincent
DePaul Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Little League
Blue Angels. There are 11 teams with players ranging
in age from 3 to 12.
The San Antonio Wolverines Pop
Warner Football organization also calls Covel Sports
Park home. Dubbed the "Little Big House" by the Wolverines,
the park serves as home field to several Wolverine teams
for the various age groups in the league. The
San Antonio Wolverines Pop Warner Football organization
calls Covel Sports Park home. Although volunteers from
both St Vincent de Paul and the Wolverines provide some
maintenance of the playing fields during their respective
seasons, all other maintenance of the park is provided
free of charge by Waste Management.
